Rebate Offers

Did you know that sellers will offer 100% refunds on their products?  It happens!  On the large platforms like Amazon, Walmart, Wayfair, or Chewy, the products that are selling the best tend to be presented higher in the search results... which means more people see them and buy them.  Sellers offer free products so that their listings rank higher in sales!  Sellers may also offer free products in exchange for ratings, reviews, or positive feedback... which also helps boost their sales, but we'll talk more about that in a bit.

So how does it work?  Well, there are a lot of different formats, but here is the process that is most common!

1. Start a chat in messenger

You may see an ad on Facebook that offers a 100% rebate.  When you click on the offer and enter the messenger chat, you may be talking to a live person... or it may be a "bot" with automated text.  Keep in mind that the bots can only answer expected text.  Click on the buttons they provide, or type only
exactly the response they are looking for.

2. Be Smart

Carefully read the requirements of the offer so that you know what you're agreeing to!  Some offers give 100% refunds, but others may be less.  It may or may not cover sales tax.  If they are refunding you by PayPal, there may be PayPal fees that aren't covered.  In general, be sure that you're comfortable purchasing the item even if you have to pay for tax and PayPal (pp) fees.

3. Look for No-Review offers

The offer may state that the refund is giving "pre-paid" - that's rare, but awesome!  Or the refund may be given on shipping, on delivery, or after rating/review.  Be very careful about any that require rating or review, which is against Amazon's policies and can get your account blacklisted.

4. Provide Information

As long as you're comfortable with the offer, go for it!  They'll need your email address, and may ask you to confirm it several times.  Some offers will ask for a screenshot of your Amazon profile.  Even if they're not asking for a review, some sellers prefer working with Amazon accounts that have not been blacklisted... So they're looking to see whether you show a review history.  In some cases they'll ask for your phone number, and may even text a code to confirm that it's a valid number.

5. Find the Product

You will be given either a direct link to the product, or they'll ask you to open Amazon and use specific
keywords to find their product.  Be sure to use the exact keywords you're given - the seller is trying to associate those words with their product within the Amazon algorithms.  Some sellers will ask for a screenshot showing both their product and the keywords in the search bar so they know you did it correctly.  Sometimes the item is right at the top and easy to find... other times I have to look through 4 or 5 pages of items to get to the correct one.  In a few instances, the photo the seller showed me was not the main image in Amazon, which made it even more difficult!

6. Purchase the Product

Be sure the seller has given you the green light to purchase.  Sometimes they'll ask you to browse competitor items first, or to hold it in your cart for a certain amount of time.  Follow the instructions, and purchase the item when told.

7. Confirm Details

The seller may ask for your Order ID #, or for a screenshot of your order details.  Provide that information so they can verify your order.

8. Keep Track & Wait

If you're doing more than one or two offers at a time, it's important to keep a spreadsheet of your pending orders.  I also like having all my completed offers in Excel so I can have a running total of all my expenses and rebates.

Here's what I have on my spreadsheet: Name of the item, total cost (including tax), Date Purchased, Date Received, Refund Amount (only entered once I receive it), Seller Name (FB page etc.), and any important details I need to remember.

Once I receive the rebate, I copy that line and move it to a new sheet of 'Completed' offers.  On the Completed page,  I have a running total (auto calculated by Excel) so I can keep track of my +/- balance.

9. Celebrate!

It's exciting every time I get a package in the mail, knowing that I've either already been refunded or that a rebate is coming soon!  I plan for birthday and Christmas gifts, and I'm also part of a group in my area that makes gift baskets for strangers around town.
